HailCON TM Index.
Meteorologist Mike Dross, the developer of the HailCONTMIndex, said, "We hope the development of the HailCON TM index will help people understand the risk for damaging hail and take appropriate action to prepare. Damaging hail causes billions of dollars in damage in the U.S. each year and our product can help better communicate the risk"
The HailCON TM Index is a Hail Forecasting system that combines proprietary computer modeling and artificial intelligence to more accurately forecast where large, damaging hail will occur. HailCON TM classifies damaging hail as 1" or larger.
Below is a description of the hail that can be expected based on the HailCONTM value.
8+ Very high likelihood of damaging hail.
6 - High likelihood of large and damaging hail.
4 - Good chance of large hail.
2 - Low chance of severe hail, but is possible.
0 - Near-zero chance of severe (1"+) hail.
The HailCON TM Index ranges from 0 to 10. Multiply the value by 10 to get the probability of severe hail within 50 miles of a location.
For example, a HailCON TM Index of 8 means there's a 80% chance of a hail greater than 1" within 50 miles of any location in the indicated area.
